Coastal Fisheries Resources Section

Our research activity aims to develop resource management and sea farming techniques for commercially important marine animals in coastal waters of the Tohoku region. We are mainly studying the ecology of abalone and flatfishes as a basis of these techniques. Because mortality in the early life stages plays an important role in determining year-class strength, we are focussing on survival mechanisms during the larval and juvenile periods. In addition, the biological production systems of prey organisms are being intensively studied.
